Installation day gets all the attention. The crew arrives, the panels go on the roof, and the system is live within a day or two. What most homeowners do not fully consider before signing is what the next 30 years look like with the company they chose.
A solar system needs monitoring, maintenance, and reliable service for its entire lifespan. It also needs the warranty behind it to be honored by a company that is still operating. In 2024, over 100 residential solar companies filed for bankruptcy or shut down, leaving thousands of homeowners with what the industry now calls “orphaned” systems. No monitoring access. No one to answer a service call. A workmanship warranty that voided the day the company closed.
Solar Energy World has operated continuously since 2009. Here is exactly what that relationship looks like after installation day.
Free live monitoring, from contract signing onward
Every Solar Energy World installation includes free access to the Solar Energy World monitoring app, available on iOS, Android, and as a web portal. Access begins at contract signing, before a single panel goes on the roof, so homeowners can follow the installation process through design, permitting, and activation.
After the system goes live, the app tracks real-time energy production, home energy consumption with a meter installed, battery usage for storage systems, long-term cumulative savings, and environmental impact. It is updated continuously and accessible from any device.
Most solar companies charge for monitoring. Industry rates run from nothing to $100 or more per year, with some charging setup fees of $225 or more for access. Solar Energy World includes it at no cost because the monitoring infrastructure is also what makes the warranty enforceable and the service process functional.
What monitoring catches early: inverter faults, shading changes from growing trees or new structures, soiling from debris or bird droppings, wiring anomalies, and production drops below expected benchmarks. Catching a problem on day two of a fault is a fundamentally different outcome than catching it on month four when the utility bill finally reflects the loss.
Service requests through the same app
When monitoring flags an issue, or when a homeowner notices something, a service request is filed through the same app. One step. No separate call, no separate portal, no routing through a manufacturer’s warranty line.
This is the direct contrast to what orphaned system homeowners experience. When an installer shuts down, workmanship warranties void immediately. Equipment manufacturer warranties for panels and inverters may technically remain active for parts, but those warranties do not cover the labor cost of diagnosis, removal, or reinstallation. A homeowner with an orphaned system typically discovers that most other solar companies will not take on service work for systems they did not install. The path to a repair involves finding someone willing to do the work, negotiating a price, and working through the equipment manufacturer independently, often overseas.
SREC management and incentive tracking
In Maryland, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, SREC income begins accumulating after activation and continues for up to 15 years depending on the state. Capturing that income requires registration with the relevant state platform, enrollment with a broker or the utility’s program, and in some cases ongoing production reporting.
Solar Energy World registers every applicable system in the relevant SREC program as part of the standard post-install process. Homeowners do not maintain a separate brokerage account, track enrollment windows, or manage compliance reporting. The income arrives without administrative burden.
A company that will still be there in year 15
Every post-install commitment is only as meaningful as the company behind it. Solar Energy World has operated continuously since 2009, through multiple market cycles and through the industry’s most turbulent period on record. As a wholly owned Comcast subsidiary since November 2024, Solar Energy World has the institutional financial backing of one of the largest media and technology companies in the United States supporting a 30-year warranty commitment.
With 435-plus W-2 employees and 26,000-plus systems installed, the service infrastructure exists to respond to warranty claims at scale. When a service request comes in at year 12, it goes to the same organization that installed the system. There is no search for a willing third-party contractor. There is no gap in accountability.
